On the late night of April 20th, a fire occured in the Transocean Deepwater Horizon oil rig, about 50 miles from the shore of Lousiana. There were 126 men on board, and after an enormous explosion only 11 didn't make it. The rig collapsed and ended up sinking in the Gulf of Mexico. The safeguards tried to put a cap on the oil well, but it didn't turn out so good. Now, about 200,000 gallons of oil is spilling to the Gulf of Mexico, everyday. This could probably be happening for months, because people haven't really found a solution to solve the oil leak. This is the worst oil spill in history.
This oil spill can cause lots of harm in the world. The tourism of the southern states would obviously lower because the ocean would all be polluted, and thats what people go for during their vacation. Not only that, but also all the coral reefs, and the fish will get polluted. Right now, people can't go fishing for food, because everything in toxic. The company is trying to stop the spill with a gadget called "top hat." It will be positioned a mile below the surface. No gas problem will occur with the new cap. I think this will probably work, or atleast i have hope for it to work. This will defineatly help a lot because it's really an expensive solution, and scientists have really tried it.
